History of OLMA a.s.
There were 56 small dairies in the surrounding villages in 1935. At tempts were made in 1935 to establish a new cooperative dairy, but World War Two and differences of opinion did not allow for this idea to be brought to life.
This idea was revived after 1945. It was not brought to life until after 1965, when on the basis of a decision by the Ministry of the Food Industry, the small dairies were abolished and a new and modern industrial dairy was able to be created - OLMA.
Basic data from the history of OLMA
- 1965 Investment assets of the Ministry of the Food Industry approved for the concept for establishment of a dairy with a drying plant with a total daily capacity of 450,000 litres of milk in Olomouc
- January 1967 construction commenced
- April 21, 1967 laying of the foundation stone
- November 3, 1967 setting of the drying plant into operation (Stage I)
- February 1968 commencement of construction of the production building
- October 1, 1970 start of installation of the technological equipment
- December 17, 1970 commencement of operations
- May 1972 completion of construction (total costs approx. CZK 150 mil.)
- 1970 - 1993: OLMA part of SEVEROMORAVSKÉ MLÉKÁRNY NP OSTRAVA - MARTINOV, as one of 9 plants
- 1994: privatisation – creation of the joint stock company OLMA , a.s., OLOMOUC (still valid today)
- December 31, 1998: establishment of the 100% subsidiary company OLMA SLOVAKIA, s.r.o.
- 1999: gaining of the ČSN EN ISO 9001 certificate
- 2000: gaining of the ČSN EN ISO 14,001 certificate
- 2008: new majority owner AGROFERT HOLDING, a.s.
- 2010: gaining of the IFS (International Food Standard) certificate
OLMA, a.s. today
The joint stock company Olma was created to the scope as given by the privatisation project of January 1, 1994 and is the legal successor of the state-run enterprise Olma, Mlékárenský průmysl Olomouc, which was detached from Severomoravské mlékárny, n.p. Ostrava – Martinov in 1990.
OLMA, a.s. is a 100% Czech company whose majority owner is AGROFERT HOLDING, a.s. group.
The Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and CEO of OLMA, a.s. is PhDr. Simona Sokolová.
Main activities:
Processing of raw cow’s milk, production of dairy products and commercial activity.
5 main product groups:
- Fresh and long-life milks and creams
- Sour dairy products and yoghurts
- Desserts
- Butter, butter mixtures and vegetable fats
- Powdered milk
A quality assurance system pursuant to ISO 9001 was introduced in OLMA in 1999, which standardises all production, control and supplier-customer operations and procedures in such a way as to ensure the maximum quality and thus also the competitive advantage of the whole product range.
